ShadowLordAsteroids

The Game that started it all

The First game made

ShadowLordAsteroids was the first digital game I made in my life, and that is why I still, from time to time, come back to it and try to improve it. This game currently has three different game modes. There are still multiple aspects of this game that I would love to improve. For example, the steering still feels a bit off. Along with that, the current economy of the game is wildly unbalanced. I hope one day to finally fix it and finally give the game a finished state. Let me now explain the game modes that I made for this game.

Asteroid Panic

This game mode sees two different players competing to be the first to the finish line. But the main twist is that the screen moves instead of the player, so you can never be too far ahead of your opponent. This makes an interesting question. Are you going to play it save and stay at the back where the risk of being blown up is the lowest? or are you going to risk it all and try to be the first once the finish line appears.

Asteroids

In this game mode, the player's primary goal is to survive for as long as possible and get the highest score. This part is an evolution of the original game of the same name. the improvements to this version are the following

  • You can now get extra lives when you get enough points

  • There is an ultimate shot that you get every so points (CTRL)

  • There is also a triple shot that is on cooldown (ALT)

This is a game mode that balancing is not yet great at and needs improving. I chose to keep it this way as a lesson to myself about how vital balancing is

The Road

The Road is a few linear levels to reach the end without losing your three lives. The primary purpose of this mode was to make a racing game inside the ShadowLordAsteroids. But it ultimately failed because of complications with the Gamemaker 2 engine.
